Evaluation: Question 2 - How Does Your Media Product Represent A Particular Social Group?

Comparing my model and magazine to these real life magazines you can see that she is pulling similar poses and facial expressions. All of the magazines have medium close-ups shots and the models are pulling non-serious/overly posed expressions which is similar to my magazine. As the genre is pop and the target audience for pop magazines is young teens this shows that the magazine is fun and made for people that age. If the models had serious faces and the photos were close-up's It may make the audience feel intimidated and as if the magazine isn't the pop genre.
The make-up in the magazines is overly done with lots of bright colours and bright lipstick and it is clear that they are wearing it. In the We Love Pop examples all of the artists/models are a lot older than the one I used which is why I decided not to use too much make up. The model on my cover looks more innocent and younger because she is not too dressed up and over done. This can engage with the target audience more as they may feel that because she looks more innocent she is more their age and can relate to her more.

This is a video of one of the members of my audience telling me what the representations of my model are. From this response I can see that I have got it right.

Research And Planning: Progress Of Cover Page

I have changed the colours of the banner on my contents page so that it stands out more. I have also done this with the 'bubble' so that the audience can clearly tell who the cover story is about. I have done this because after doing some audience research I found that the audience liked this style better rather than having the font all the same colours.

I have also added shadows and strokes around the fonts and pictures to make the magazine look as if it has layers rather than everything being 'stuck to the page'.

Research And Planning: Audience Interview Questions

I am going to interview a group of students about their views on the new layout of my magazine. I am going to compare to the old one to the new one and show them my double page spread and contents page. I am going to do this to find out the positive and negative things so that any negatives that are mentioned can be changed and everything they audience like about it will be kept.
I am going to show them a picture of both my magazine front covers and video their answers.

Here are the question I am going to ask:

1) Comparing the layouts and features of both covers of the magazines which one are you more likely to pick up in a store and why?

2) Do the colours of the new cover page relate to the pop genre and if not why?

3) Should the contents page feature more pop artists and if so who would you like to see on there?

4) Should the double page spread feature a poster and a shorter interview or a full interview with pictures?

5) Are there any changes that should be made to the cover, contents or double page spread to make it more attractive to you and if so what are they?

Research And Planning: Progress Of Contents Page

I have changed the colours of the boxes on my contents page as i felt that there was too much pink on the page. It is also easier to see and stands out more on the page rather than blending in.

Research And Planning: Changes To Contents Page

I have made the 'gossip' section of the magazine bigger so that it fills the page.
